Jack Davis: From the Beginning, was an exhibit that included highlighted works from his illustrious art career. Glynn Visual Arts was proud to host this event Thursday 1st to Friday 30th, August 2013.
Davis lived in New York for most of his career, eventually becoming the world’s leading humorous illustrator, his art instantly recognizable worldwide, from 1949 until his semi-retirement. Not long after his retirement, he moved to St. Simons Island.
This retrospective event was an exceptional opportunity for Glynn County Art Association to acknowledge this internationally known illustrator and showcase his work. Given the caliber of both illustrator and show, Glynn Art Association tried something new to cover the additional costs: an online campaign through Kickstarter. Through their generous supporters, they were able to raise over $3,000.
The show exhibited pieces that highlighted Jack Davis' signature style, including his nationally known works such as the 25 cent stamp he designed in 1989 for the U.S. Postal Service. It also reflected the Glynn Arts Association’s dedication to showcasing artists for the enjoyment of the community. While the association benefitted from having such a high profile artist showcased in their facilities, they also have a commitment to giving artists of all levels the exposure and chance to have their work displayed.
